Need Help with Mapping Partner ID to Office 365 & Dynamics 365 Subscriptions via GDAP

Hi Community,

We’re looking to map our Microsoft Partner ID (MPN ID) to our clients' Office 365 and Dynamics 365 subscriptionsto enable co-sell tracking, partner recognition, and incentives.

As per our internal checks:

Only a Global Administrator on the tenant can manage GDAP (Granular Delegated Admin Privileges)relationships and add the Partner ID/MPN via the Microsoft Admin Center.

Any insights or guidance from the community or Microsoft team would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sahil Kumar

Need Help with Mapping Partner ID to Office 365 & Dynamics 365 Subscriptions via GDAP
    Hello Sahil Kumar,

You've correctly identified the crucial role of the Global Administrator in managing GDAP relationships and associating your Microsoft Partner ID (MPN ID) for co-sell tracking, partner recognition, and incentives with your clients' Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 subscriptions.

Here's a comprehensive breakdown of the process, insights, and guidance based on the community and Microsoft best practices:

Understanding the Mechanism: GDAP and Partner Association

    • Granular Delegated Admin Privileges (GDAP): This is the modern, more secure way for partners to manage their customers' Microsoft cloud services. It replaces the older Delegated Admin Privileges (DAP) with more granular and time-bound access.
    • Partner Association: Linking your MPN ID to your clients' subscriptions through GDAP is essential for Microsoft to recognize your involvement in the sale and ongoing management of those services. This recognition is what enables co-sell benefits, partner program incentives, and proper attribution.
    • Global Administrator Requirement: As you noted, managing GDAP relationships and associating the Partner ID requires Global Administrator privileges on the client's Microsoft 365 tenant. This is a security measure to ensure that only authorized personnel can grant delegated access.

    •

Steps for Your Clients to Associate Your MPN ID via GDAP:

You will need to guide your clients through these steps, as you (as the partner) cannot perform them directly on their tenant without them granting you GDAP with the necessary roles.

    1. Client Logs into Microsoft 365 Admin Center: The client's Global Administrator needs to sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center at https://admin.microsoft.com/.

    2. Navigate to Partner Relationships:

      • In the left-hand navigation menu, they should go to Settings (may need to expand "Show all").
      • Click on Partner relationships.

    3. Request a New Partner Relationship (If One Doesn't Exist):

      • If you don't already have a GDAP relationship established with the client, they will need to initiate one.
      • Click on Request a partner relationship.
      • They will need your Partner Center Link (the direct link you provide them to establish the GDAP relationship). This link specifies the granular roles you are requesting.

    4. Review and Approve the GDAP Request:

      • Once the client clicks your Partner Center Link, they will be guided through reviewing the permissions you are requesting.
      • The client's Global Administrator must approve the relationship and the specific roles you've requested.

    5. Associate Your Partner ID (MPN ID):

      • Once the GDAP relationship is active, the Global Administrator might need to explicitly associate your Partner ID. This step's visibility and exact location in the Admin Center can sometimes vary slightly based on updates. They should look for sections related to:

        • Partner information
        • Microsoft Partner Network
        • Settings related to partner associations

      • They should be able to enter your Microsoft Partner Network ID (your MPN ID) in the designated field and save the changes.

      •

    6.

Important Considerations and Guidance for You and Your Clients:

    • Clearly Communicate the Value: Explain to your clients the benefits of associating your MPN ID, such as:

      • Ensuring they receive the best possible support and guidance from a recognized partner.
      • Enabling you to help them leverage Microsoft incentives and programs they might be eligible for.
      • Proper co-sell tracking if you are working together on opportunities.

    • Provide the Correct Partner Center Link: Ensure you provide your clients with the correct and specific Partner Center Link for establishing the GDAP relationship with the necessary granular roles. This link is generated within your Microsoft Partner Center.

    • Guide the Global Administrator: Offer clear, step-by-step instructions (like the ones above) to the client's Global Administrator. You might even consider a screen-sharing session to walk them through the process if needed.

    • Verify the Association: After the client has (hopefully) completed the steps, follow up with them to confirm that your Partner ID has been successfully associated. You might be able to see this reflected in your Microsoft Partner Center eventually.

    • GDAP Roles are Key: The specific GDAP roles your client grants you will determine the level of access you have to their tenant. Ensure you request the appropriate roles necessary for co-sell tracking and managing their subscriptions effectively.

    • Client Control and Security: Emphasize that GDAP provides them with granular control over the permissions they grant you, enhancing security compared to the older DAP model. They can assign specific roles with limited privileges and for a defined duration.

    • Microsoft Documentation: Refer your clients to official Microsoft documentation on establishing GDAP relationships and associating partner IDs within the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

    • Troubleshooting: If your clients encounter issues, help them troubleshoot by reviewing the steps together and checking for any error messages in the Admin Center. If problems persist, consider contacting Microsoft Partner Support.

    •

    Community and Microsoft Team Insights:

    • Regularly Review GDAP Relationships: Encourage your clients to periodically review the GDAP relationships they have established to ensure they are still appropriate.

    • Stay Updated on Admin Center Changes: Microsoft frequently updates the Admin Center interface. Be aware that the exact navigation might change slightly over time.

    • Leverage Partner Center Resources: The Microsoft Partner Center is your central hub for managing your partner relationships, understanding incentive programs, and accessing relevant documentation. Familiarize yourself with its resources.

    • Engage with Microsoft Partner Support: If you or your clients face persistent difficulties, don't hesitate to reach out to Microsoft Partner Support for direct assistance.

    •

By clearly understanding the GDAP process and effectively guiding your clients, you can successfully map your MPN ID to their subscriptions and unlock the benefits of partner recognition and co-sell tracking. Remember that the client's Global Administrator plays the pivotal role in granting the necessary permissions.
