MSM and dimensions

Posted on by 166
Hello!

Would it be possible in MSM to setup dimensions for sites and then into projects? There is this function for setting up dimensions for facilities which might be equal to a sites but how about the next step, projects. Any
OOB solution for that or will this be a Dataverse/Power Platform solution?

In Microsoft Sustainability Manager (MSM), the standard functionality allows for setting up dimensions for Facilities, which can be considered equivalent to Sites. However, there is no out-of-the-box (OOB) feature in MSM specifically designed to set up a hierarchy that includes Projects as a separate dimension under Facilities or Sites.

    Potential Solutions:

    1. OOB Setup for Facilities (Sites):

      • Use the existing dimension functionality for Facilities to represent Sites.
      • Leverage the hierarchy and relationships within MSM to categorize and report on sustainability data at the facility/site level.
    2. Custom Solution with Dataverse/Power Platform:

      • For incorporating Projects as an additional hierarchical layer, you will need a custom solution.
      • Use Dataverse to create a custom table (e.g., "Projects") and establish relationships between Projects and Facilities.
      • Build forms, views, and dashboards in the Power Platform to enable data input and visualization for the Site-Project hierarchy.
    3. Integration and Reporting:

      • Integrate this custom structure with MSM workflows and calculations using Power Automate or APIs.
      • Use Power BI or MSM reporting features to visualize the Site-Project data for emissions tracking, resource utilization, or other sustainability metrics.

This hybrid approach leverages MSM’s OOB capabilities for Facilities while using Dataverse and Power Platform for additional customization, ensuring scalability and flexibility.

I would like to know if it possible to setup a structure like this

    • Facility/Site A
      • Project 100 (values)
      • Project 200 (values)
    • Facility/Site B
      • Project 300
      • Project 400
      • Project 500
    • Facility/Site C
      • Project 600
      • Project 700
  • MSM and dimensions
To clarify, are you asking if there is a way to set up a hierarchy for facilities? If so, similar to how it is set up for organizations? Thanks!
