Events Series in Real-Time Marketing

We're currently using Event Series in Outbound Marketing. The only current workaround we've found is to "Save As" a new event in Real-Time Marketing, which is a significant loss in functionality. If we expose the recurring event column on the real-time marketing form, the event series gets created as it does in Outbound (which is our desired outcome). Will Microsoft's code that's running the series creation no longer work after 6/30/2025 when Outbound Marketing in deprecated?

    Events Series in Real-Time Marketing
    Hello CH-11121931-0,

You've accurately identified a critical issue with the transition from Outbound Marketing's Event Series to Real-Time Marketing (RTM) events. The "Save As" workaround is indeed cumbersome and loses significant functionality. Your observation that exposing the recurring event column in RTM replicates the Outbound behavior is insightful.

Here's a breakdown of the situation and the potential implications:

    Understanding the Problem:

    • Outbound Marketing Event Series: Provides a robust way to manage recurring events.
    • Real-Time Marketing (RTM) Events: Lacks native Event Series functionality.
    • "Save As" Workaround: Inefficient and loses data.
    • Exposing Recurring Event Column: Triggers Outbound-like series creation in RTM.
    • Deprecation of Outbound Marketing (6/30/2025): Raises concerns about the future of the underlying code.

    •

The Crucial Question: Code Dependency and Deprecation:

    • The core concern is whether the code that handles Event Series creation (triggered by the recurring event column) in RTM is:

      • Directly dependent on Outbound Marketing components: If so, it will likely stop working after 6/30/2025.
      • A shared component or a transitional compatibility layer: If so, it might continue to function, but this is not guaranteed.

    • Microsoft's Intent:

      • Microsoft's intent with the Outbound Marketing deprecation is to fully transition users to RTM.
      • Therefore, they are unlikely to maintain code that relies on Outbound-specific components.
      • Microsoft is pushing all users to use the Real-time marketing, and to use the features that are contained within that product.

    • Risk:

      • Relying on the exposed recurring event column as a long-term solution is risky.
      • Microsoft could remove or change the underlying code without notice.

    •

    Recommendations:

    1. Seek Official Clarification from Microsoft:

      • Microsoft Support: Open a support ticket to inquire about the future of Event Series functionality in RTM.
      • Microsoft Community Forums: Post your question in the Dynamics 365 Marketing community forums.
      • Microsoft Documentation: Keep a close eye on Microsoft's official documentation and release notes for any updates.

    2. Provide Feedback to Microsoft:

      • Microsoft Ideas Portal: Submit a feature request for native Event Series functionality in RTM.
      • Emphasize the importance of this feature for your business.

    3. Explore Alternative Solutions:

      • Power Automate: Consider using Power Automate to create recurring events.

        • You could create a flow that generates new event records based on a schedule.

      • Custom Development: If necessary, explore custom development options to replicate the Event Series functionality.

    4. Transition Planning:

      • Begin planning your transition to RTM's native event management features.
      • Avoid relying on the exposed recurring event column as a permanent solution.

    5. Testing:

      • Test the creation of events, after any feature updates from Microsoft, to make sure that the current functionality still works.

    6.

In summary, while exposing the recurring event column currently replicates the Outbound Event Series behavior, it's highly risky to rely on this as a long-term solution. Seek official clarification from Microsoft and explore alternative solutions.

    Events Series in Real-Time Marketing
After June 30, 2025, when Outbound Marketing is deprecated, the code running the series creation in Outbound Marketing will no longer be supported
    • Microsoft is encouraging all users to transition to Real-Time Marketing before this date to avoid any interruptions
    • While exposing the recurring event column on the Real-Time Marketing form might create the event series as desired, it's important to note that Real-Time Marketing is designed to offer advanced capabilities and ongoing product investments
    • Microsoft is continuously adding new features to Real-Time Marketing to bridge any gaps that users might experience during the transition
    • If you haven't already, you might want to review the transition functional areas guide and other transition resources provided by Microsoft
These resources offer feature-specific guidance, workarounds, and a roadmap to help you make the transition smoothly.
